THE BUZZARD
Kings Lynn, Norfolk
CLIENT SECTOR: Harbour Authority
PROJECT DURATION: 2 Weeks
TONNES PROCESSED:

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Back in 2009, the Buzzard vessel had been moved from the Kings Lynn Quay out into the River Ouse which was its final resting place, at high tide, only its mast could be seen rising from the water. The sunken vessel cause a navigational issue to recover and required removal.
CHALLENGES
Working with the tides always poses a challenge of our pontoon was anchored to the river bed using legs to allow the machine to work on brining up the vessel in pieces.
PROJECT SCOPE
The salvage operations required working around the tides to manoeuvre our pontoon into position to reach the vessel, transporting arising waste back to the quay for disposal.
OUTCOMES
We have completed nearly 200 vessel removals to date now, the buzzard (2009) was one of many and since then we have continued to develop our expertise and methods making us a leading expert in marine demolition and dismantling. The safe removal of this sunken vessel left the River Ouse free of hazards and insured safe disposal of waste keeping the waterways clear.
OUR APPROACH
We set up our operations base on the quay in Kings Lynn, where we mobilised our fleet and pontoons which were transported back and forth to the site of the sunken vessel by tug boat. Our 20t machine could then reach down with a rotating grab and dismantle the vessel. While our safety boat was able to easily navigate around the work site, collecting any floating debris.
