DELL CENTRE
Plymouth, Devon
CLIENT SECTOR: Local Council
PROJECT DURATION: 6 Months
TONNES PROCESSED: 15 Tonnes

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Gilpin Environmental were awarded the Licensed Asbestos removal works for the Dell Centre from Plymouth City Council. The building, built in 1949, offered a range of services from charity, midwifery and childcare during its occupation but it was identified that Asbestos containing materials, were ending their lifespan and if left unchecked could cause issues in the future. The services were moved to other premises to allow for the removal to commence and we worked with Plymouth City Council to devise a strategy to complete the work to make the building safe.
CHALLENGES
Timescale played an important role in this project as the council required overlapped and staggered schedules with other trades to assess the building and plan for further developments of the site.
PROJECT SCOPE
The site contained some 560m2 of asbestos sprayed coatings covering the ceilings, this type of asbestos works require a licensed Asbestos contractor to undertake to ensure the safe and compliant removal.
OUTCOMES
We successfully handed the site back to Plymouth City Council allowing them to continue with the further developments of the site and as result plan for new resources for the community.
OUR APPROACH
Our highly trained Asbestos professionals erected enclosures, working strategically in sections throughout the site to clear the asbestos containing materials safely and allow other trades to follow behind once clearance was complete.
