Plymouth – Lower Union Street, demolishing the footbridge from the Toys-r-Us and the multistory car park to the pavilions crossing.

Councillor Tudor Evans – Leader of Plymouth City Council:

“This bridge has been here for 30 years. We need it out of the way now because we’re creating something really new – called “The Boulevard”.

This is a physical link between the water and the city, and we’ve been trying to do these physical links in other parts of the town as well.”

Sam Gilpin:

“There was a lot of planning. The actual main part of the works is only going to take 11 hours for the whole of the job, from start to finish, so the road’s not being closed until seven o’clock and it’s got to be open by six, so our actual demolition time will only be about six hours.”
